Report: Charles Manson follower tried to smuggle cellphone to killer

A Charles Manson follower was arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle a wrist watch cellphone to the killer, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Craig Hammond, 63, was taken into custody Sunday following the incident at Corcoran State Prison.

He faces charges of conspiracy, possession of an illegal communication device and attempting to bring a cellphone into a prison, California corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton told the Times.
A retiree nicknamed "Gray Wolf," Hammond is a regular visitor to the convicted serial killer.
Manson has been caught with a cellphone in his prison cell twice in the past four years.
In March 2009, guards found a cellphone under his mattress.

Officials revealed he had called or texted people in California, Florida, New Jersey and British Columbia, Canada.
Guards found another cellphone in Manson's cell in January 2011.
Manson, 78, is serving a life sentence for ordering the ritualistic murders of Sharon Tate and six other people in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969.
He's been denied parole 12 times.
