Putin offers a replacement for allegedly pilfered Super Bowl ring

Russian president Vladimir Putin has offered to replace New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft's Super Bowl ring, which the sports team owner claims Putin pocketed during a meeting in 2005. 

The ring, worth a considerable $25,000, has been the subject of what Putin referred to somewhat sincerely as a "complicated international problem" in recent days, in comments to the Associated Press, after Kraft explained to media what had actually happened to his prize.

Putin claimed to media that he didn't remember either Kraft or the ring, but did offer a certain solution to the issue. "…If it is such a valuable thing to Mr. Kraft and his team, I have a proposal," said Putin to AFP. 

"We will ask our enterprises to craft a really good, noticeable thing — so it is clear that it is expensive, made of a good metal, with a rock — so that this jewel is passed on from generation to generation in the team whose interests Mr. Kraft representsm," the Russian president added.

He did not offer to return the original ring, which is rumored to hold a prominent place in the Kremlin library, although this hasn't been corroborated. The Russian Super Bowl mystery, for now, remains. 

 "I took out the ring and showed it to [Mr Putin]," said Mr Kraft of the original pilfering earlier this month, according to the Telegraph. "And he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring.' I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."
