A Muslim woman was kicked out of a Trump rally for standing up and being Muslim

On Friday night, Rose Hamid stood silently for a few moments at a Trump rally in South Carolina being Muslim. 

Then, she was escorted out. 

Hamid said she came to the rally in Rock Hill because she believed that most Trump supporters had never met a Muslim, and she had the "sincere belief" that "if people get to know each other one on one, they will stop being afraid of each other."

She came dressed in a white hijab and a turquoise T-shirt that read: "Salam, I come in peace." On her left shoulder, she had a yellow star, reminiscent of those worn by Jews during the Holocaust.

Hamid said many people at the rally were very nice to her. Those sitting near her shared their popcorn and engaged her in friendly conversation. But when Trump launched into his usual anti-Muslim rhetoric, the mood began to change. 

He started talking about Syrian refugees, saying they "probably are ISIS." Hamid stood up in the crowd and remained silent. Trump kept going, but soon the crowd started chanting, "Trump! Trump! Trump!" Security came and removed Hamid from the premises.

Later, Hamid, a 56-year-old flight attendant, told CNN about the experience: 

In the interview, Hamid takes care to draw a distinction between those who took the time to engage with her one on one, and those who seemed to fall under the spell of a "hateful crowd mentality." 

Once the chants started, Hamid said one Trump supporter even took her hand and said, "I'm so sorry this is happening to you." 

But it was happening nevertheless.
