Mumbai factory fire kills five

Five are dead and seven more have been injured after a fire following a factory explosion in the industrial area of Mumbai located in the Andheri suburb, the force of which caused the wall of an adjoining house to collapse.

The fire occurred in a factory producing aluminum molds, according to NDTV.com, and appears to have been caused by an explosion related to production machinery, although results are inconclusive according to other sources.

The explosion took place in the industrial Sakinaka region of Mumbai, wrote the Times of India, which added that four fire engines and three ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident, transporting eight victims to the hospital.

"We have not found anything suspicious so far but we will investigate from all angles. There are teams from fire brigade and forensics. Factory inspectors and the police are also investigating," said Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre Patil to NDTV of the incident.

"We came here after hearing people crying for help. We helped an old man escape," eyewitness Sartaj Ahmed said to NDTV.

In June, a huge fire engulfed Mumbai's Mantralaya building, which houses Maharashtra state secretariat. Eleven people were injured and hundreds more evacuated.
