Minnie Mouse makeover features designer dress

For Minnie Mouse, the bow and red and white polka dots are out, and a mature, royal blue gown is in.  Disney has unveiled a new look for its popular character in a catwalk show in Disneyland Paris. Minnie's new costume is a matronly a dress designed by Lanvin.

"Walt Disney was the one that actually designed Minnie. It's the first time an actual designer has come into the picture and designed a dress for her," Lanvin's designer Alber Elbaz told the Associated Press.

The latest makeover came after Disney suffered an embarrassment last year when Minnie Mouse got another high-fashion makeover. Barneys, the high-end New York department store, made Minnie super slim and and tall for its holiday window displays, the Christian Science Monitor reported

Minnie's temporary size 0, 5-11 frame sparked a Change.org petition, which argued that "there is something wrong with changing a beloved children’s character’s body so that it looks good in a dress that almost nobody looks good in – adding to the tremendous pressure on young girls and women to attain photoshop perfection."
