Michelle Shocked sits-in at canceled show after her anti-gay slur

Michelle Shocked is staging her own sit-in now that a number of clubs have canceled the singer's shows after her recent anti-gay comments.

Shocked made critical remarks about same-sex marriage and homosexuality during a performance in San Francisco two weeks ago.

But that did not stop the singer from appearing Thursday night at one of those clubs "with her face covered and her mouth taped shut to protest the way she is being treated," according to the New York Times.

Bill Welch, owner of Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, California, replaced her that night with two local bands that support gay rights.

"We will not be bashing Michelle Shocked," Welch told the Associated Press. "Rather, we will celebrate music, diversity and send some healing Santa Cruz energy her way."

Shocked, who is a punk-folk singer and songwriter, had previously been in a lesbian relationships but changed her views after becoming a born-again Christian.
