Margaret Thatcher funeral: Queen will attend next week

Queen Elizabeth II will attend Margaret Thatcher's funeral next week, along with a  who's who list of British public officials, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The funeral, set to take place next Wednesday April 17, will be an elaborate ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral.

London is preparing for a British spectacle but the late prime minister remains a polarizing figure among the public and politicians.

On Monday, a number of anti-Thatcher "parties"  broke out in a number of British cities and there are concerns of demonstrations along her the route of her funeral procession from Westminster.

The 87-year-old died on Monday, after suffering a series of strokes.

A Downing Street spokesman said the ceremony, with full military honors will be accorded "the same status as Princess Diana and the Queen Mother," but it will not be an official state funeral which is normally reserved for the royal family,  the BBC said.
