Man sues Dr Oz for home remedy that resulted in burns

A New Jersey man is suing television personality Dr Oz, claiming he suffered third degree burns to his feet after following his advice for insomnia.

Frank Dietl, 76, alleges Dr Mehmet Oz’s so-called “knapsack heated rice footsie” left him with burns and confined to his bed for weeks, the NY Daily News reported.

The segment titled "Dr Oz's 24-Hour Energy Boost" was on an April 2012 episode of the popular medical show.

Dieti's attorney, Dominick Gullo, said Dr Oz advised viewers to fill the toes of a pair of socks with uncooked rice, warm them in a microwave oven and slip them on.

The doctor warned viewers not to overheat the socks.

Dieti claims he followed the instructions and woke in the middle of the night unable to walk.

The elderly man, who is diabetic and suffers from neuropathy with a “diminished sensation in his feet, filed his claim in the Manhattan Supreme Court Monday, the New York Post reported.

“What upset me was that Oz should have had a disclaimer for people with neuropathy,’’ Dietl said.

It was not disclosed how long Dieti heated the socks in the microwave.

A spokesman for the show would not comment.
