Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons soar

The 87th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade made its way through the streets of New York City on Thursday.

More than 3.5 million people were expected to turn out to watch the procession of giant balloons, fantasy floats, cheerleaders, dancers, clowns and marching bands.

High winds overnight had threatened to ground the balloons for the first time in more than 40 years.

But the procession went ahead after the strong winds died down by morning and authorities ordered balloon handlers to fly their inflated characters at a lower altitude along the 2.5-mile-long route.
