UNICEF estimates that there are 768 million people in the world who lack access to clean water.
The organization has come up with a way to help: a game that's a simple but challenging test of will.
Use the mobile browser on your smartphone and go to uniceftapproject.org (you don't need to download an app or sign up or anything). Place your phone down on a table. Don't touch it. The site senses movement, like a T-Rex. Wait 10 minutes.
Bingo. Thanks to your epic sacrifice, UNICEF receives a donation that will pay for one day of clean water for one child in need.
Doesn't sound like much? Well when was the last time you went a day without access to clean water? And if you want to do more, just let your cell phone sit there and don't touch it. You'll earn more and more water.
If you go to the same URL from your computer, it'll bring you to a minimalistic, aesthetically pleasing website where you can see real-time information about how the campaign is doing.
As I'm writing this, there are 2,674 people NOT touching their phones. The top city is Seoul, South Korea. And users have racked up 3.9 years worth of water for children.
