Help GlobalPost report on conflicts around the world

BOSTON — GlobalPost’s award-winning reporting has given voice to individuals caught up in war from the remote corners of Myanmar and Thailand to the battlefields of Somalia, Libya, Syria and elsewhere.

War reporting is expensive and dangerous, yet it is vital to the public interest. We're asking readers to help us keep it going through the financial challenges of a rapidly-changing media landscape.

We've launched a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to raise $95,000 that will go toward keeping a dedicated global conflict correspondent in the field for 16 months. What’s a conflict correspondent? It’s a journalist with the training and experience to get first-hand stories from some of the world’s most violent places. Here's some of our previous footage:

GlobalPost has already raised $250,000 from private sources to keep doing the important work of covering global conflict. With this money we'll hire our new correspondent and a dedicated conflict editor and cover the expenses of their work. With your help, we'll be able to keep their work going for longer and in more parts of the world.

We were the news shop that obtained the earliest known footage of Colonel Gaddafi's capture by Libyan rebel fighters. We were honored as the recipient of an Overseas Press Club (OPC) award for our reporting on Libya's civil war and the fall of Gaddafi in 2011. And our “On Location” video reporting series won the George Foster Peabody Award, the oldest and most prestigious prize in electronic media.

And thank you for supporting journalism the whole world needs.
