Chris Brown has reportedly been charged with a hit-and-run and driving without a license.
The singer, who already faces a charge that he violated his probation in connection with his felony assault conviction for beating his girlfriend Rihanna, has tweeted in his own defense.
It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous — Chris Brown (@chrisbrown) June 25, 2013
For added emphasis, Brown, 24, also changed his Twitter avatar to a picture of himself and the woman standing by her Mercedes, which he allegedly hit (see accompanying screenshot).
According to TMZ's report, he rear-ended the Mercedes last month and then refused to provide his driver's license number, gave incorrect insurance information and then left the scene.
Brown subsequently tweeted:
I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene. — Chris Brown (@chrisbrown) June 25, 2013
However, the LA City Attorney has filed two criminal charges — hit-and-run and driving without a valid license.
According to the LA Times, Brown faces up to six months in jail on each offense if convicted.
If Brown were found to have violated his probation, he may have to serve up to four years in prison.
Brown also had a message for the media reporting the incident:
"My lawyers will be contacting you. I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!"
