Cannes jewelry heist sees $1-million worth of bling vanish

Don’t be surprised if the stars don’t shine as bright this year in Cannes.

Police are investigating after $1.4 million worth of jewelry went missing from a hotel room at the famous European movie festival early Friday.

An employee of the Swiss jeweler and watch maker Chopard reported someone bashed open her room’s wall safe, The Hollywood Reporter said.

In a move that seems inspired by a Hollywood thriller, thieves targeted the safe through an adjoining room with a connecting door.

The Chopard employee was carrying so much bling because it’s often loaned to stars who walk the red carpet.

The company also redesigned the Palme d’Or trophy given to the director of the festival’s top movie.

Police said it might have been an inside job, and are questioning employees at Hotel Novotel, where the robbery occurred at about 5 a.m. local time.

According to the Guardian, stars such as Julianne Moore, Cindy Crawford and Cara Delevingne have worn Chopard at Cannes this year.

The French Riviera is no stranger to high-priced heists.

In February, days after a spectacular diamond heist at Brussels airport and a brazen hit on an upscale jeweler in Paris, thieves made off with a million euros worth of luxury watches.

Robbers stole the goods from a store on the Croisette seaside promenade in the upscale resort of Cannes on Thursday after breaking in while the store workers were out to lunch, police told Agence France-Presse.
