Boston Bruins, Red Sox postpone games amid manhunt for bombing suspect

Boston's Bruins and Red Sox postponed their games on Friday night as police continued their manhunt for the remaining marathon bombing suspect.

The Bruins were to host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at TD Bank Garden in an NHL game, but both teams cancelled their morning skates as the violence continued across the region before later postponing the game.

“Due to today’s heightened security in Boston, we are taking direction from state and local officials,” the Bruins website said at noon. 

The game was set for 7 pm Eastern time. First pitch between the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals was also scheduled for about that same time.

"For everyone asking, we haven’t heard anything on the game,” third baseman Will Middlebrooks tweeted, according to MLB.com. “It’s based off of the city officials. Waiting to hear.”

The Boston Celtics will play the New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA playoffs beginning Saturday in New York.

The Celtics cancelled their game on Monday against the Indiana Pacers before ending the season with a loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

The Bruins rescheduled their game against the Ottawa Senators on Monday after bombs at the Boston Marathon killed three and injured 170. With another game delayed, the Bruins will play six games in nine days to end the season.

The NHL team returned to the ice on Wednesday night for an emotional 3-2 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
