Veteran ABC News journalist Barbara Walters will retire next summer but will remain on as executive producer of "The View," which she currently co-hosts and created in 1997.
“I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on The View and with ABC News,” Walters said, adding “I’m not walking into the sunset!”
Walters, 83, will still report and make occasional appearances on ABC.

Walters started in journalism in the 1960s at NBC's "The Today Show" and later became the first woman to anchor a daily network television news program in 1976 at rival network, ABC.
Over the past few decades, she made her name interviewing both important political leaders and A-list celebrities.
She has sat down with everyone from Cuban leader Fidel Castro, Egypt's Anwar Sadat to Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie.
