Two motorcycles collided head-on with an SUV in southern Pennsylvania, killing five people in what local authorities called a "horrific" crash.
The accident occurred Saturday afternoon on a road in the Cumberland Valley near the Maryland state line, according to The Associated Press.
The motorcycles were traveling in the same direction when they hit the SUV head-on.
Four people on the motorcycles and one person in the SUV were killed, Washington Township police said.
Township Supervisor Elaine Gladhill told The Herald-Mail newspaper grief counselors were sent to the scene because of the high number of fatalities.
“The scene was horrific,” she said. “It’s probably the worst single accident with that many fatalities in the township.”
Authorities had not released the victims' names as of Sunday morning.
