This Week’s Agenda: Financial Concerns in Spain and Italy, Israel-Palestine Talks, Fragile Ceasefire in Syria, Romneys’ First Interview

Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar-al-Assad ended a four-day-old ceasefire yesterday with shelling in Homs, just as United Nations military observers arrived in Damascus. How will the UN mission move forward?  Just south of Syria, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Tuesday. Fayyad will deliver a letter from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, demanding that Israel accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
Meanwhile, the Eurozone’s problems appear to be far from over, with borrowing costs skyrocketing in Spain and Italy. Finally, Mitt and Ann Romney will sit down with Diane Sawyer for their first interview this week. The interview comes just days after Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen caused a firestorm, commenting that Ann Romney “has never actually worked a day in her life.” Discussing the news for the week ahead are  Marcus Mabry, editor-at-large at The International Herald Tribune, and  Charlie Herman, business and economics editor for The Takeaway and our co-producer, WNYC Radio.
