After 11 months of bloody internal strife, the situation in Syria does not seem to be changing. On Monday, tanks and troops gathered en mass outside the resistance stronghold of Homs, possibly planning for another round of urban combat. Meanwhile, the Red Cross tried to broker a humanitarian cease-fire to allow for much needed emergency aid to get in, and Senator John McCain has urged the U.S. and its allies to arm and equip Syrian rebels.   Jon Lee Anderson is correspondent for the New Yorker and one of the few journalists allowed in the country.
