U.N. food plan

The World

The U.N. held an emergency meeting in Switzerland on April 29 to address the global food crisis. UN chief Ban Ki-Moon will lead a new UN task force to tackle the global food crisis. Ban says the first priority will be to feed the world’s hungry and prevent social unrest around the globe. UN officials also offered two hundred million dollars in emergency aid, but warn much more will be need to increase the food supply.

Ban Ki-Moon also called on the international community to donate 755 million dollars in emergency funds for the world food program. He says it’s important to plan ahead to ensure the crisis doesn’t deepen.
