Turkey Teen Wins Prize for Making Plastic From Banana Peels

Istanbul teenager Elif Bilgin wanted to find an alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastic production.

So she developed a way to make bio-plastic from discarded banana peels.

Her efforts won her this year’s “Science in Action” award.
