Summer reading picks

The summer reading season has several weeks to go — that’s enough time to knock off another book, or two or three. "The World" asked three authors and one publisher for their recommendations.

Sasa Stanisic is the author of "How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone." His pick is a book called "Firmin: Adventures of a Metropolitan Lowlife" By Sam Savage.

Tahmima Anam, author of the novel "A Golden Age," picked "The Girl from Foreign" by Sadia Shepard.

Author Salman Rushdie’s most recent book is the novel "The Enchantress of Florence." His summer pick is "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz."

Barry Cunningham is a publisher of children’s books, and the man who is credited with "discovering" JK Rowling. His choice for summer reading is "The Spook’s Mistake" by Joseph Delaney. It will be released in the US later this month as "The Last Apprentice: Wrath of the Bloodeye."

PRI’s "The World" is a one-hour, weekday radio news magazine offering a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe. "The World" is a co-production of the BBC World Service, PRI and WGBH Boston. More "The World."
