New immigration law controversies: Some harsher, some more forgiving

The United States seems to be going in two directions when it comes to immigration. Alabama has just passed a law that forces schools to check the immigration status of all students, starting in kindergarten. It also makes it essentially illegal to give undocumented immigrants rides in cars. Meanwhile, Massachusetts officials announced this week that they will be pulling out of a fingerprint-sharing program known as ‘Secure Communities’ spearheaded by the Obama administration.
