Same-Sex Marriage and the Debate Over Immigration Reform

Among the new measures on the table when it comes to immigration reform is the Uniting American Families Act.
The bill, which was reintroduced by House lawmakers this week, would allow up to 40,000 immigrants in same-sex marriages a pathway to legal residency by adding the term “permanent partner” into the Immigration and Naturalization Act. But Republicans like Senator John McCain have said that adding “social issues” to the immigration reforms currently being considered is “the best way to derail it.”
