Neil Armstrong Finally Breaks His Silence to Talk About Moon

“One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong is known as the man who made that first step on the moon, and for uttering these words about it. In the subsequent five decades, he has also come to be known among frustrated journalists for his reticence.

Finally, he has granted a lengthy interview Alex Malley, chief executive of Certified Practicing Accountants of Australia. Malley says he was able to land the interview because Armstrong’s father was an auditor.

The website of CPA Australia carries a four part video series of the interview that includes a blow-by-blow account of the final minutes of the landing, illustrated with footage form the event.

Armstrong also told Malley that at times he misses being in the pilot seat and that he is pained by the decline in the US space agency’s budget.
