Roger Bennett is co-author of "Camp Camp: Where Fantasy Island Meets Lord of the Flies." It’s a collection of summer camp reminiscences and ephemera from people who came of age in the 1970s and 1980s. Contributors include AJ Jacobs, David Wain, Paul Feig and Sloane Crosley.
Bennett has his own very personal memories of camp, and shares them with Jesse Thorne.
He says camp was, "… an incredible window into the social, cultural and economic realities that makes this country both great and terrifying at the same time."
Chapters in the book include "Camp Gastronomy," "Socials," "Camp Love" and "Visiting Day."
The brainchild of host and producer Jesse Thorn, "The Sound of Young America" is an irreverent weekly arts and entertainment interview program, described by its creator as "a public radio show about things that are awesome."
At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.
Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
