The G8 gets acquainted with the G5

The G8 Summit — the meeting of the world’s eight richest countries — is underway in a remote mountaintop resort in Japan. President Bush joins other foreign heads of state from Japan, Italy, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and Canada.

This year, the gathering of world leaders will focus on the critical issues of greenhouse gas emissions, global economic woes and African aid.

But the headline for this G8 session is how to deal with the "G5." In the grips of global inflation, the eight richest nations are getting acquainted with five growing economic dynamos that represent nearly three billion people: China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico.
