In 1990 Chris McCandless was just out of college. He decided to sell all his possessions, donate the money to charity, then hitchhike to Alaska to live alone in the wilderness. Jon Krakauer’s account of McCandless life and death was the bestseller Into the Wild. This week it comes to the screen, in a movie directed by Sean Penn, starring Emile Hirsch as McCandless. Penn tells Kurt why he was drawn to the story.
