Hanukkah begins Sunday night and that means something special in Israel: Donuts! Or more accurately: sufganiyot. We sent The World’s Middle East correspondent, Quil Lawrence, out to sample the seasonal delight.
Sufganiyot are fried balls of dough filled with a variety of things. So it looks like a slightly stouter jelly donut and the jelly hole is right on top. They’ve dusted it with powdered sugar. It’s excellent, strawberry jelly filled. The dough is much denser than your average donut. Happy Hannukah from Jerusalem. Mmm, that’s good.
