A Syrian-American’s Case for Intervention

The Takeaway

All last week we heard from the voices of Congress, our president, and our listeners.
Today we add one more to the mix–the voice of a Syrian-American.
Basma Akbik left Syria for the United States 20 years ago when she traveled with her husband, who completed his medical residency here.
Her family and her husband’s family remain in war-torn Syria, and many of them are in Damascus awaiting an end to the bloodshed and fear of chemical warfare. While some Syrian-Americans feel the U.S. should stay out of the nation, Akbik feels differently.
Basma Akbik joins The Takeaway to weigh in on how the rest of the world should respond.
