Damien Chazelle, the writer and director of “Whiplash,” managed to make a Best Picture-nominated movie before he turned 30. It also happens to be a psychological thriller about jazz — how is that even possible? One of the founding members of the B-52s, Kate Pierson, steps out on her own with the help of super-producer Sia. And we ask, what bummer experiences could be made joyful through better design?
