Diversifying the Writer’s Room: Playwright Tanya Saracho on Writing for Television

Tanya Saracho says she is "a playwright who also writes for television." She is originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, but she grew up on the border, in Texas. Tanya founded a theater company in Chicago called Teatro Luna, and ran it for 10 years. She recently made the transition to writing for television, working as part of the writing staff of HBO hit shows like Looking and Girls.

In the latest episode of Radio Ambulante: Unscripted, Tanya talks to Daniel about the start of her writing career in Chicago, her transition to television, and what it's like to be a Latina in Hollywood's predominantly white and male writer's rooms.
