Marion Lloyd covers Mexico for GlobalPost. Lloyd has been a foreign correspondent for 14 years, reporting throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and South Asia. For two years she was an editor at the Associated Press’s Caribbean bureau. From India she covered the Indo-Pakistani conflict, the military coup in Pakistan, the Taliban’s fundamentalist regime in Afghanistan, the civil war in Sri Lanka and the rise of Maoist rebels in Nepal. While in South Asia, she wrote a regular column for the South China Morning Post and contributed frequently to the Washington Times on the nuclear conflict. In late 2000, Lloyd returned to Mexico to open a special country office for the Boston Globe following the historic July elections when opposition candidate Vicente Fox won the presidency. She has covered extensively Mexico’s rocky transition to democracy following the collapse of one-party rule. Lloyd has worked as reporter for the English language daily The News in Mexico City, and she has been a contract correspondent for the Houston Chronicle and the Chronicle of Higher Education. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Time, Sports Illustrated, Marie Claire, More, Ladies Home Journal, EcoAmericas, Poder y Negocios, and Gatopardo. Lloyd majored in Spanish and English literature at Harvard University, with the equivalent of a minor in Latin American studies.
