Finbarr O'Reilly contributes from Africa for GlobalPost. He is staff photographer for Reuters in Dakar, Senegal, and in 2006, he won the premier award of the 49th annual World Press Photo contest. Originally from Ireland, Finbarr moved to Vancouver, Canada, at age nine. He started journalism as an arts writer for the Globe and Mail and National Post newspapers in Toronto. His focus is mostly on covering Africa, but he has reported from various other parts of the world. During one of his more memorable assignments, Finbarr spent several months embedded with Canadian troops in Afghanistan in 2007, covering the war against the Taliban insurgency. Finbarr frequently turns to portraiture in an attempt to produce lasting images that capture the lives and stories of people behind the news.
