Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour ignited a firestorm of controversy when he pardoned nearly 200 individuals, some of them still in jail and at least one a convicted murderer, shortly before he left office. Now the state Supreme Court will take up the case.
A judge in Mississippi has temporarily blocked the release of 21 inmates pardoned by now former Governor Haley Barbour. Jim Hood, Mississippi’s Attorney General, tells CNN Barbour failed to publish pardon requests 30 days before they were granted as required by law.
On Tuesday, outgoing Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour granted full and unconditional pardons to 193 inmates. Many of these prisoners had been convicted of murder, rape, assault and robbery.
