Smiling Through the Pain

In December 2013, marketer Julie Bayley resolved to get back into stand-up comedy — her last performance was 30 years ago and to perform a set of new material by the end of 2014.

May Update:

They say laughter is the best medicine, and I’m sure it can be except when you’ve just had your abdomen sliced open. I have spent the last month recuperating and ruminating. Right now, laughing: not so much fun.

Haven’t felt very funny but I know that in subsequent weeks this entire ordeal will make its way into my routine. Waking up every morning and lying there trying to see what hurts and what doesn’t is not necessarily interesting but it IS curious.

During this downtime, I’ve managed to compile about 25 minutes of ramblings from which hopefully I’ll get a couple of minutes of good material. By June I’m hoping to be standing up somewhere, anywhere talking about my travails! Coming to a street corner near you…
