The 10 Best High School Band Names

Submissions are pouring in to our Battle of the High School Bands contest. We’re digging the competitors’ earnest, lo-fi tunes. But we’re really getting a kick out of their bands’ inventive names. You know that a band called The Walking Dead Don’t Eat Brains is going to rock hard.

We extended the call to our friends on Twitter and Facebook, and they didn’t disappoint. In fact, many followed this near-fool-proof formula: adjective + food = brilliant band name.

We happen to have some former high school rockers on staff at Studio 360. Senior producer Leital Molad played bass in The Last Wish — the Houston Press described them as a group of teens “playing mellow music that even their parents must be proud to recommend to strangers.” Senior broadcasting engineer John DeLore (known as Reverend John DeLore in certain folk rock circles) was a member of The Flying Buttresses: “I played guitar, harmonica, and I sang,” he says, “if you can call it that.”
