Prince William and Duchess Catherine welcome newest addition to the Royal family

Prince William and Duchess Catherine, also known as William and Kate have welcomed a new addition to the Royal family — a cocker spaniel puppy.

The male cocker spaniel, yet to be named, is a few months old and comes from a litter “with a close family connection," People reported, citing palace sources.

"The Middletons are known to fancy spaniels," the paper wrote.

The puppy was photographed with the royal couple earlier this month in Wales.

Publication of the photographs, which showed the royal couple sharing an intimate moment on a remote beach with the puppy playing at their heels, caused some controversy, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

An Australian magazine, Woman's Day, was rumored to have paid $50,000 for them and published them on the cover labeled ''World Exclusive Pictures'' along with a headline promising to reveal all about ''Kate's confession: HOW SHE SHOCKED WILLS.''

However, the SMH reported, "These are the same photos that Clarence House specifically requested British tabloids and magazines not to publish as the royal family considered them an invasion of the couple's privacy."

The puppy is reportedly the couple’s first dog. William, however, had a black Labrador named Widgeon who died two years ago.
