No house, no spouse

It's been repeatedly reported that Chinese men face huge problems finding a mate if they don't own a house.

A new survey first published in the Chongqing Morning Post seems to bear out the theory, finding that 70 percent of women believe that men have to own an apartment to be marriage material. The poll of more than 50,000 single women also found that most don't believe those with low earnings deserve a mate.

With the country's steadily increasing surplus of males (an estimated 35 million extra men by 2020, thanks in part to the one-child policy), things are apt to only get worse for single men.
