Barcelona beat Real Madrid again and other soccer news

Bliss it is to be alive when Barcelona are redefining the possibilities of their sport. Last night they played Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, the knock-out competition, similar to England's FA Cup, that runs at the same time as the league championship. The scoreline was 2-1

It wasn't as if Real Madrid played badly. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal. But thereafter it was all Barca, Barca, Barca.

This is one of the great rivalries in sport but it is becoming a bit one sided. Real have not beaten Barcelona in Madrid since 2008.

Video highlights are here at youtube for the moment. The commentary is in Russian. That's globalization for you.

In other soccer news, David Beckham has signed a two-year deal to stay with the LA Galaxy. Rumors just before Christmas had him going to Paris St. Germain, as I blogged at the time. Sunshine and the school year seem to have swung him towards finishing his career in La-La land.
