Australia: Dead baby found in washing machine
Police say the baby’s body was found in a domestic washing machine in a Brisbane suburb on Jan. 26.
MELBOURNE, Australia — Police in Australia are investigating the death of a baby whose body was found in a washing machine in the eastern city of Brisbane.
According to the Herald Sun and Courier Mail newspapers, the baby was found in a suburban home on Jan. 26, which is Australia Day.
Police had been investigating the death since then, but only made the discovery public late on Tuesday night, after receiving forensic information.

"We've been actively investigating that matter and as a result of the post mortem and forensic testing that matter is suspicious,'' Detective Senior Sergeant Tod Reid, the officer in charge of the North Brisbane Child Protection Unit, is quoted as saying by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
The Sydney Morning Herald says that no one had been charged in relation to the incident so far.
It added that police have not been authorized to reveal the age or gender of the child because of concerns it may identify the child or other children involved in the case.
