At 116 years old, Dona Sebastiana of Resende, Brazil is reported to be the world’s oldest woman.
A Brazilian woman who just turned 116 years old may well be the oldest woman on earth, the news site G1 reports. When Dona Sebastiana was born in 1895, when Brazil had only recently become a republic and had a total population less than that of the city of Sao Paulo. As she celebrated her 116th birthday on May 3 at a retirement home in the city of Resende, Sebastiana told reporters she attributes her longevity to good genes. Which makes sense, because healthy living isn't the most likely explanation. Sebastiana says she was a smoker until just four years ago.
