Amateur video shot in Cairo and posted on YouTube shows vans — reportedly police and diplomatic vehicles — hit crowds of protesters.

In the first video, a white van pulls into a stream of protesters and speeds up, ploughing through the crowd and knocking down numerous people.

It is unclear how many people were injured or killed in the incident, but reports say as many as 20 were hit.

In the second video, posted on YouTube on Thursday and aired on Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, a police van comes careening around a corner and makes no apparent effort to avoid  running over protesters near Tahrir Square.
