The company that makes American delicacies like Ball Park brand hotdogs and Jimmy Dean breakfast sausages is one step closer to being Brazilian-owned. Brazilian meatpacking giant JBS has reportedly lined up financing to close its on-again, off-again bid to buy Sara Lee, the American purveyor of frozen pies, coffee and processed meats. JBS is already the biggest protein producer on earth – bigger than America’s better-known Tyson Foods – and it sells mostly in China. If this deal goes through, JBS will also have a stake in the heart-stopping industrial meats America loves at breakfast, at the ballgame, and nested in fried corn batter on a stick.
