The swearing in of Dilma Rousseff as Brazil's first female president on New Year's day was considered a milestone for women in the country. But just as Rousseff became the nation's leader, another woman grabbed the headlines.

Marcela Temer, the 27-year-old former beauty queen and wife of Vice President Michel Temer, stole the show at the inauguration with her glamorous looks and stylish fashion. Local newspapers have been running front-page photographs of her for days, and one reported she looked like a "Roman goddess" at the inauguration ceremony, according to BBC News.

She has also been called the Carla Bruni of Brazil, which her husband politely dismisses. Carla Bruni is the equally glamorous wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

"[Marcela] is discreet. She is my wife and the mother of my child," he said.

The former beauty queen says it does not matter to her that her husband is 70. They met seven years ago when she asked him for a photograph of himself at an event, and he requested her number in return, Reuters reports.

"Age is not an obstacle in our case," Marcela Temer told a local paper. "It's like Michel was 30 years old. It's funny to say, but it's true."

The couple married in 2003 and have a son.

Temer has a law degree and plans on taking the bar exam and possibly doing charity work.

Since the inauguration, Temer has been a hotly discussed topic on social network sites like Twitter. See results here. And photographs of Temer here.
