India and Pakistan each added around 20 nuclear warheads to their arsenal in the past year according to a new report by a Sweden-based think tank cited by the Times of India.

In its latest report, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said both India and Pakistan continue to develop new ballistic and cruise missile systems capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, in the past year India increased its arsenal from 60-80 nukes to 80-110 warheads, while Pakistan boosted its stockpile from 70-90 to 90-110 warheads, the paper cites SIPRI as saying.

"India and Pakistan continue to develop new ballistic and cruise missile systems capable of delivering nuclear weapons. They are also expanding their capacities to produce fissile material for military purposes," a SIPRI press release said.

SIPRI also warned that Pakistan risks losing control over its nuclear arsenal to a terrorist group, a separate TOI article reported.

Though disarmament is largely a fiction throughout the world, SIPRI said, South Asia is "the only place in the world where you have a nuclear weapons arms race," that article reported.

Meanwhile, it's virtually the only place where competing nuclear powers are engaged in nearly constant border skirmishes, and one of them fully believes that the other funds and plans terrorist attacks on its cities and towns on a regular basis.
