Much of my adult life as a photojournalist has been drawn to Latin America. In all my travels into the Spanish-speaking world, I try to capture the humanity of individuals, whether I’m in Buenos Aires, the Andean mountains of Ecuador or the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Old people. Children. People who work hard and earn small wages. People who retain pride, humor, uncommon decency, even when meeting strangers they might never see again. Weavers. Leather workers. Makers of rugs and pottery, folk sculpture and fine cuisine. All that, and the color of the sky, the effect of sun and rain on stucco walls, the release and joy of a village fiesta.
