Brazilian reporters arrested in Cairo

The World

Two journalists from Brazil’s state-run radio and television stations flew to Egypt to follow the unrest, but they barely made it off the plane. In a taxi between the airport and their hotel, they were stopped at a police checkpoint, arrested and blindfolded. They spent the night without water in a windowless cell, and were told they could go only after signing a document in Arabic promising to leave the country immediately. The two reporters were on a flight back to Brazil by Friday morning, but a colleague at TV Brasil said police kept the reporters' cameras, recorders, notebooks and cell phones.
