The World

The death toll from Brazil’s worst-ever flood continues to mount. The latest count is 764, more than a week after landslides erased entire towns in the mountains north of Rio de Janeiro. In the aftermath, survivors are still awaiting aid and authorities are still recovering bodies. The Rio de Janeiro prosecutor’s office has released its first official estimate on the number of missing, more than 300, suggesting the final victim count will likely hit 1,000.
