Norway killer issues political demands from behind bars

Confessed mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has presented two long lists of demands to police in exchange for his cooperation, including the resignation of the government, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Geir Lippestad said the 32-year-old Christian radical responsible for the July 22 bomb and gun rampage that killed 77 people also demanded that his mental state by examined by specialists from Japan, AP reported.

"They are completely impossible to fulfill," Lippestad told AP.

"He claims the Japanese understand the idea and values of honor and that a Japanese (specialist) would understand him a lot better than any European would."

One list of demands related to daily life in custody, such as for cigarettes and civilian clothing. The other more bizarre demands were on a second list, the lawyer said.

Among the latter were sweeping political reform with himself playing a key role, including the resignation of the Labour government of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

"His demands here includes the complete overthrowing of both the Norwegian and European societies," Lippestad said.

Behring Breivik claims the massacre was part of a "crusade" to stop a "Muslim invasion" of Europe, and has written a lengthy manifesto against multiculturalism.

Lippestad said his demands, offered in exchange for information about far-right movements in Europe, shows that "he doesn't understand the situation he's in."
