More sea troubles

China continues to make waves with its neighbors, this time lodging a formal complaint with Japan over fishing activities around disputed islands in the East China Sea.

Reuters reports that China complained to Japan about fishing boats around the Diaoyu Islands, a group of uninhabited atolls over which the two countries have an ongoing dispute. China's Foreign Ministry posted a statement on its website about its protest to Japan,  with spokesman Hong Lei saying: "Any actions taken by Japan in the seas around the Diaoyu Islands are illegal and invalid."

Tensions remain high over the disputed waters of the South China Sea, meanwhile, with more protests in Vietnam over China's claim to territory there. China has rankled its sea neighbors in recent year with increasingly aggressive behavior in disputed waters.
